How to use Instagram for Businesses

One tool that is often overlooked by social media marketeers is Instagram. This is a shame because with over 500,000,000 active users, it is definitely one of the biggest social media platforms out there. In this article we’re going to share with you why and how you can use Instagram to benefit your business.

Instagram Business profiles have more features than regular accounts.

Setting up a Business Profile

First you’ll need to create a business profile so your company will be properly recognized on Instagram. You’ll also be able to quickly gain insights to the performance of your posts and you’ll also get access to a new promote feature, similar to Facebook’s paid advertisements.

Go to your account settings and scroll down until you see the “Switch to Business Profile” option (note: depending on your region, this option may or may not be available yet), tap on this button and you’ll be prompted to connect your Facebook page to your Instagram account. Doing so will establish a link between the two, which will also carry over all your business data from Facebook to Instagram.

Now that you’ve set your business profile up, you’re equipped with the proper tool-set to start promoting your company on Instagram!

The Strategy

So how do we leverage the potential of Instagram as a marketing platform? There are multiple ways you can expose your business to a new audience via Instagram so let’s work our way down the list.

1. Post Regularly

Alright, so this may seem a little bit obvious but a lot of people forget that the key to reaching social media success requires you to update and maintain your channels regularly, same goes for Instagram. Make sure to post a couple of images related to your business every day and you’ll notice that more people will increasingly start to follow your profile.

2. Stay Relevant

For better engagement results we recommend you stay up-to-date with current trends, as long as they’re relevant to your business, that is. Pokemon Go, Game of Thrones, the presidential elections, they’re all examples of widely discussed topics and sharing images related to those topics will likely get them featured on Instagram’s trending page. Don’t forget to use hashtags!

3. Use Video

Ever heard of the saying; “a picture is worth a thousand words?”, with that mindset video should convey 30,000 words per second. You can share anything on Instagram ranging from a short, behind the scenes look of your business to a 30 second promotional video. Additionally, you can use Instagram Stories to directly communicate with your audience!

4. Advertise Content

Once you’ve familiarized yourself with Instagram and you’d like to opt for a more aggressive approach we’d recommend checking out their advertisement service. With this, you’ll be able to promote your brand to an audience other than your followers more easily. When setting up your campaign Instagram will give you the ability to target certain demographics, which makes it easier for you to connect with the right audience.

5. Rinse, Repeat and Analyze

Now that you know how to make your Instagram profile stand out the only thing left for you to do is repeat this strategy on a daily basis. With your all-new business profile you’ll be able to analyze how well certain posts are working and capitalize on that.

As with all social media platforms; your success is often decided by how much time you spend promoting your Instagram page. Try mixing your strategy up from time to time to see what works best for you. Don’t shy away from giveaways and contests as they are the perfect opportunity for you to get your account and its posts shared and liked by others.
